Active Power Filter — Application Guide

APF — Active Power Filter

Product Overview

APF (Active Power Filter) is a power electronic device designed for dynamic harmonic suppression and reactive power compensation. By detecting harmonic components in the load current and injecting compensating currents of equal amplitude but opposite phase, APF achieves active harmonic elimination. It can filter harmonics from the 2nd to the 50th order simultaneously while compensating for three-phase imbalance, making it a key solution for addressing harmonic pollution in modern power systems.

Key Advantages

✓  Full-band harmonic filtering (2nd ~ 50th), filtration rate > 97%

✓  Simultaneous reactive power compensation and three-phase balancing

✓  No risk of system resonance — safe and reliable operation

✓  Parallel connection — does not affect existing system operation

✓  Modular design supporting N+1 redundancy

Typical Application Scenarios

▸ Scenario 1: Smart Distribution Grids & Industrial Parks

Higher power quality demand along with Smart distribution grid and industry park set up.

As smart distribution grids and industrial parks are developed, power quality requirements are becoming increasingly stringent. APF effectively mitigates harmonic pollution generated by various non-linear loads within the park, ensuring clean and stable grid operation.

▸ Scenario 2: LED Lighting Systems

LED lighting system harmonic mitigation.

Large-scale LED lighting systems produce significant 3rd harmonics, leading to neutral conductor overload. APF precisely eliminates characteristic harmonics from LED drivers, reduces neutral current, and extends equipment lifespan.

▸ Scenario 3: Urban Rail Transit (Metro)

Metro / Subway traction power quality.

Metro traction rectifier systems generate substantial low-order harmonics and DC components that affect surrounding grids. APF installed at the traction substation side effectively cleans grid quality, ensuring safe and reliable metro operations.

▸ Scenario 4: EV Charging Stations

EV charging station power quality management.

High-power DC fast chargers employ high-frequency rectification technology with high and rapidly fluctuating harmonic content. The fast-response characteristics of APF are perfectly suited to the dynamic harmonic mitigation needs of charging stations.

▸ Scenario 5: Commercial Centers & Data Centers (AIDC)

Commercial center, AIDC and high-precision processing assembly/production line.

Commercial complexes, AI Data Centers (AIDC), and high-precision manufacturing lines are highly sensitive to power quality. APF delivers a pure sine-wave power supply environment, safeguarding precision equipment and data integrity.

▸ Scenario 6: Community High-Quality Power Supply Promotion

Community High PQ supply demand/promotion.

Promoting high-quality power supply solutions for communities, APF serves as the core treatment unit, helping to create "zero-harmonic" demonstration communities and enhancing residents' power usage experience and safety.

▸ Scenario 7: Smart Grid Strict Power Quality Standards

Smart Grid demand: pure power supply without harmonic. Strict PQ standard will be adopted to improve Grid security and stability.

Smart grid development drives continuous upgrades to power quality standards. Future grids will widely adopt stringent PQ standards, and APF is the key equipment for achieving "harmonic-free" power supply.

▸ Scenario 8: Critical User High-Reliability Power Assurance

More and more critical users demand high PQ power supply (IT, data center, Metro, 5A buildings) to ensure data security and system stability.

Critical users such as IT rooms, data centers, metro systems, and 5A-grade buildings have extremely high requirements for power quality. APF eliminates harmonic threats at the source, ensuring data security and stable system operation.
