Static Var Generator (STATCOM) — Application Guide

SVG (STATCOM) — Static Synchronous Compensator

Product Overview

STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator) is a next-generation dynamic reactive power compensation device based on Voltage Source Converter (VSC) technology. It provides fast, continuous regulation of reactive power output. Compared to traditional SVC, STATCOM offers faster response (<10 ms), higher compensation accuracy, and a smaller footprint. It is widely deployed in smart distribution grids, renewable energy grid integration, and HVDC transmission systems.

Key Advantages

✓  Millisecond-level response speed, real-time load tracking

✓  Output current independent of system voltage — full capacity at low voltage

✓  Modular design, easy to scale up and maintain

✓  Footprint only 1/3 ~ 1/2 of traditional SVC

✓  Low harmonic content — no additional filter required

Typical Application Scenarios

▸ Scenario 1: Smart Distribution Grid Reactive Power Upgrade

Upgrade Var compensation in Smart distribution grid, reduce power loss, improve line transmission capacity.

Deploying STATCOM in smart distribution grids significantly reduces line losses, enhances transmission capacity, improves voltage quality, and supports high-penetration distributed energy resource integration.

▸ Scenario 2: Direct Connection (No Step-Up Transformer)

Direct connection without step-up transformer.

Supports medium-voltage direct grid connection, eliminating the need for step-up transformers, reducing system cost and losses, and simplifying installation and commissioning.

▸ Scenario 3: Wind & PV Integrated Boost Substation

WP + PV integrated boost substation, recycle energy grid connection.

Provides dynamic reactive power support in wind/PV integrated boost substations, meeting grid code requirements and enhancing renewable energy absorption capability.

▸ Scenario 4: LCC-HVDC Stability Control

Var compensation for LCC-HVDC stability (100M~200MVar).

Delivers large-capacity dynamic reactive power compensation (100~200 MVar) for UHV DC transmission systems, ensuring stable converter station operation and mitigating commutation failure risks.

▸ Scenario 5: Substation Voltage Stabilization (10kV / 35kV / 66kV)

Stabilize distribution grid for substation voltage.

Covers 10 kV / 35 kV / 66 kV substations at all voltage levels, suppressing voltage fluctuations and flicker, improving power supply reliability.

▸ Scenario 6: Traction Power Supply / Port / Industrial & Mining

Traction substation, port, industrial & mining power supply.

Suitable for electrified railway traction stations, port shore power, and industrial & mining enterprises with impact loads, providing fast reactive power compensation for sudden load changes.

▸ Scenario 7: Factory & Premium Building Power Supply

Factory and 5A building power supply for var compensation.

Provides premium reactive power compensation services for precision manufacturing plants, 5A-grade office buildings, and other facilities with stringent power quality requirements.

▸ Scenario 8: High-Quality Power Demand in Smart Grid Development

Higher power quality demand along with Smart grid / Smart distribution grid setup.

Aligning with smart grid and smart distribution grid construction, comprehensively elevating regional power quality levels to meet increasingly strict power quality standards.
